Therme Canada | Ontario Place is putting swimming and access to water at the center of Ontario Place through the creation of a new, almost 3500m², free and fully accessible beach. This new beach will be shielded from wave action by a new artificial reef which will make it safe for both experienced swimmers and those exploring the lake for the first time.
Therme Canada's plans for the public space will protect and showcase the waters of Lake Ontario, while celebrating the rich heritage of Ontario and showcasing plants and trees that are native to this province. The immersive landscape will also create new breathtaking views of the lake, city skyline, and the historic Pods and Cinesphere.
A new 5,400M² wetland with aquatic vegetation will help manage storm and wastewater, improve
water quality, and create nurturing habitat for native plants and wildlife.
The crumbling shoreline that is beyond its 50-year design life will be restored to protect against continued flooding and erosion, and to honour the heritage of the armoured shorelines that were features of Ontario Place's original landscape design. This restoration on the West Island will create 25,566M²
of aquatic habitat to support fish like bluegill, yellow perch, largemouth bass, and others.
